Living in Orange Beach, Alabama: a local's guide

By KD Edenfield, Broker

Orange Beach is a small beach city built around the water. Boating is part of everyday life, the Gulf is minutes away, and the neighborhoods range from busy waterfront to quiet island streets. I moved here in 2021 and have spent five years learning every corner of it.

What is Orange Beach like?

Tucked along the Gulf Coast, Orange Beach offers something rare: a real community with a laid-back pace and amazing water access. It's not just a vacation spot. People live here year-round and love it.

What kind of homes will you find?

You'll find waterfront homes on Terry Cove, golf-cart-friendly areas where you can ride to the beach and dinner, newer homes with room to breathe, and beach cottages steps from the Gulf. Whatever lifestyle you're after, there's a fit for you here.

What do people do here?

The Orange Beach Waterfront Park, the Trail at Rattlesnake Ridge, and miles of Intracoastal Waterway give you endless ways to get outside. Boating isn't a hobby here. It's just Tuesday.

Ono Island or East Orange Beach?

Both are great for boating, but they fit different lives. On Ono Island, there's a community boat launch and lots of homes have a dock out back, but the golf cart stays on the island. In East Orange Beach, you can keep the boating and ride a golf cart to restaurants, parks, and the beach. The east end of Ono is quiet, with open water views and not many people around. I've had clients go each way.

What are the trade-offs?

Orange Beach is a vacation town too. Some streets get busy in summer, and some neighborhoods have lots of short-term rentals nearby. Rental rules differ by city and HOA. If quiet matters to you, I'll show you where to look.

What about schools?

I'll show you which public schools any home is zoned for. You can look up official school info at reportcard.alsde.edu.
